Evaluation 2: How Effective is the Combination of My Main Product and Ancillary Texts
It’s a distributer’s job to reach the widest possible audience for a producer’s film, through the means of branding and advertisement. Distributer’s will often create media packs containing the appropriate logos, slogans, images, and information required to advertise a film, so that anyone can use this material. Effectively, this creates a brand, by overexposing audiences to the same material and integrating it into their minds. This is essentially what my film magazine demonstrates. It uses the same title (and typeface) as is used on the film poster and in the trailer. The video embedded in this post walks you through other similarities between the products, as well as where I gained my inspiration from during the design process. Taking characteristics from other existing products allows an audience to identify its genre based on the conventions that have been imitated. This is important when marketing to a specific demographic, because you don’t want your audience to become confused about your product. However, this must be balanced out by a certain degree of convention breaking so that your audience doesn’t become bored or desensitised to the text.
